If you're enrolled in a health plan through OS Benefits, your premium is the monthly cost of your coverage. Here's how it works and where it shows up.
What is a premium?
Your premium is the fixed monthly amount you pay to keep your health coverage active. Think of it like a subscription — it's what you pay every month regardless of whether you use your benefits or not. It's separate from any costs you pay when you actually go to the doctor, like copays or deductibles.
How does it come out of my paycheck?
In most cases, your premium is deducted automatically from your paycheck before taxes — this is called a pre-tax deduction. It reduces your taxable income, which means you pay less in taxes overall. The exact amount depends on which plan you selected and whether your employer contributes to your premium.
Your paycheck stub will show the deduction. Ask your employer for more information on how yours will show.
Does my employer pay any of it?
It depends on your employer's plan. Some employers cover a portion of the premium — this is called an employer contribution. Whatever your employer doesn't cover is your employee contribution, which is what comes out of your paycheck. If you're not sure how much your employer contributes, ask your manager or HR contact.
Where can I see my premium amount?
You can view your plan details and monthly premium in your OS Benefits dashboard. Log in, go to your Benefits section, and select your active plan to see the full cost breakdown.
Something looks wrong on my paycheck
If a deduction looks different than expected — or you're seeing a charge you didn't expect — reach out to your HR contact or Manager.
