Adding a spouse or children to your plan? Here's how coverage tiers and pricing work — and how to make sure your dependents are actually covered before you confirm.
How coverage tiers work
Your monthly premium is based on who's covered under your plan — this is called your coverage tier. When you add dependents during enrollment, your coverage tier and monthly cost update automatically so you always see the full picture before you confirm.
The price shown during enrollment is your total cost for everyone covered under your plan (not per person), after your employer's contribution has been applied.
How to confirm your dependents are covered
Before you finalize your enrollment, the review screen shows your full summary — including everyone covered under your plan. Take a moment to check that each dependent you added appears in the summary. If someone is missing:
Go back to the Add Dependents step and make sure they were saved with their full name, date of birth, and Social Security Number
Then continue through to the review screen and check again
If you added a dependent but they still aren't showing as covered in your summary — or you've already confirmed your enrollment and noticed someone missing — email [email protected] right away and we'll make sure they're added to your coverage.
Can I add dependents after I've enrolled?
Outside of open enrollment, you can add or remove dependents if you have a qualifying life event — like getting married, having a baby, or a family member losing other coverage. You'll have 30 days from the event to make changes. See our qualifying life events article for the full list.
